About Your Trainer

Hello! My name is Ava Marceau. I am a KPA Certified Training Partner based in Rhode Island with a lifelong passion for animals. I have had the privilege of owning and working with dogs for most of my life, including raising guide dogs and fostering rescues. My journey with animal training began with horses, where I first discovered the profound bond that can exist between humans and animals. Horses taught me how to communicate and build trust with another being, and this foundation deeply influenced my approach to dog training.

Three years ago, I transitioned from dog walking to professional training, driven by the desire to work with animals in a way that prioritizes their well-being. To deepen my knowledge, I completed the Karen Pryor Academy Professional Program in February 2024 and became a Certified Training Partner.

While dogs are wonderful companions, they are unique individuals living in a world designed by humans. They deserve agency, respect, and understanding. My goal is to help owners build meaningful relationships with their dogs based on clear communication and mutual trust, giving them the space to thrive. I believe every being, big or small, deserves to be understood and treated with compassion.

Why Certification Matters

Choosing a certified dog trainer is crucial because it ensures you’re working with someone who has been educated in the science of animal behavior and positive reinforcement techniques. As a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, I’ve undergone rigorous training to help dogs learn in a rewarding and effective way. Certification guarantees that your trainer is committed to ongoing education and best practices, ensuring your dog gets the most up-to-date, ethical training.
